A Year of Projects 2021-2022

Jumping in and trying this again.

This summer I’m participating in Crazy Sock Lady’s Summer Sock Camp. It runs from June 1st to August 31st. I finished a pair of socks in June and a second  pair yesterday.  My goal is to knit 5 pairs by August 31st.  I’ve got 2 pairs in progress and started another this morning.

Bomb Pop Socks

In addition, I’ve got 3 pairs in progress from before June 1st. Those won’t count for camp, but I’d like to have them finished by the end of the summer as well. Two pairs just need heels.  I tried my first afterthought heel before sock camp began.

In addition to the sock knitting, my daughter and I will be dyeing some yarn and trying some basket weaving. September 1st I plan to bring out the sweater knitting.

Pictures of our last yarn dyeing.  I started a pair of socks with the blue and red yarn this morning.

I’m going to put this in list form for the first quarter and update in September.

July, August, September Project list:

1. Bomb Pop Socks

2. Morning Coffee Socks

3. Striped scrappy socks

4. Yarn dyeing

5. Neon socks

6. H’s socks

7. Pink/yellow socks

8. Basketweaving

9. Weekender sweater

10. Gray cardigan

  1. Lovely list. Lots of socks to be done. I wish I was a fast sock knitter. Indo good until the heel than I slow waaay down. No matter if they are cuff down or toe up. Basket weaving! Cool. Will look forward to seeing that take shape.

    1. I’m usually not a fast knitter at all. But I’ve been extremely focused, plus I’ve had a foot injury so I’ve had a lot of down time. Cuff down has been a game changer for me. I find the heel so much easier while working cuff down.

  2. Well I love everything socks so your list looks great to me! And basket weaving too? I will look forward to your progress on that. I look forward to reading your technique for yarn dyeing. I have only used kool-aid and microwave dyeing but I think I want to branch out this coming year with all the natural fleece I am spinning.

    1. We did KoolAid for the first round. I think we’re going to try Wilton food dyes next. Years ago I used acid dyes, but I won’t do that with my daughter right now. I was hoping to try some natural dyes this summer, but didn’t get what I needed from the garden. Hopefully next year!

    2. Some Wilton dyes have the tendency to fracture, which makes for VERY interesting results. Just not always the result you hoped for! On the bright side, they tend to be color fast.

  3. Wow. That's quite the list. I'm doing sock camp too but only expect to have the 2 pair I'm currently working on. Maybe I can get a 3rd in by the end of August. Depends on how long it takes me to knit a tank top. Welcome to the group and glad you got the link fixed.

    1. My original goal was a pair a month. I’m only knitting socks at the moment and really focusing on spending time knitting, so I’ve been able to get a lot done. I’m hoping I can keep it up.

  4. Lovely socks and really nice yarns. What, pray tell, are Morning Coffee socks? Sounds like something I'd like to try.

  8. Wow 5 pairs of socks in 3 months and they aren’t even shortie pairs! The socks are very pretty colours and all look great so far. I quite like the idea of 3 months of knitting socks and then moving onto a sweater project but I do find I need some projects with fatter needles to help stop hand pain on using the small needles so wouldn’t work for me but this really seems to be working well for you.

  9. SO many socks!! I thought finishing 5 pairs in a YEAR was ambitious.
I find it interesting that as sock creators we all have our different preferences.
